Mirror with Peony Vines and Paired Cranes 牡丹唐草双鶴鏡ぼたんからくさそうかくきょう

Description

The composition featuring a tortoise-shaped eyelet and paired cranes touching their beaks together, as seen on the non-reflective side of this mirror, appeared in the 14th century and later became prevalent. Other design elements, such as the large peony twigs filling the background, are also typical of this era.
