Description
This is one of the many gilt-bronze statues unearthed from a sutra mound on Mt. Nachi—a prominent sacred site in western Japan. It is an early example of the buddha Yakushi, clearly ascertained by a medicine jar held in his left hand. The buddha Yakushi was worshipped for his ability to heal the sick.
