The Buddha Yakushi 薬師如来立像やくしにょらいりゅうぞう

Description

The buddha Yakushi was worshipped for his ability to heal the sick. In this early depiction, he holds a round medicine jar. This statue was found with religious texts in a time capsule meant to transmit Buddhism to future generations. The capsule was buried on the sacred Mount Nachi in Wakayama Prefecture.
