Description
The two notches between the nostrils on the back of this mask are the mark of the mask maker Kawachi (d. 1645). The chrysanthemum-like carvings around the eyes and distinctly elongated recess for the nose ridge indicate it was copied from a mask that belonged to the Konparu school of Noh actors.
