Description

This sculpture is based on a Chinese legend in which a mysterious immortal being opens his mouth, revealing that the inside of his body is translucent. The sculptor, Hirakushi Denchū (1872–1979), was an active member of an artists' organization called the Japan Art Institute (Nihon Bijutsuin).
