Description
Monju is worshiped as the Buddhist god of wisdom. This sculpture of Monju has childlike facial features, as wisdom was associated with the purity and innocence of children. The eyes are made of quartz crystal to imbue the face with a sense of life. The robes are patterned in gold leaf to emphasize Monju’s revered status.
