Description
Monks of the Tendai school of Buddhism hold the annual Shimotsukie ceremony to commemorate the passing of the school's founder. The writing here contains the proceedings of the ceremony. It was written by Tenkai, the monk who reinstituted this ceremony and revived the main temple of the Tendai school, Enryakuji in Kyoto.
