Description
Scenes of spring and summer are depicted in the right screen of these two-panel folding screens, and scenes of autumn and winter are depicted in the left. The shift of scenes is expressed by the use of mist. Typical of works by Sakai Hôitsu (1761-1828), who was the head of the Rin school in Edo (present-day Tokyo), the use of color is very vivid. Never overbearing, this painting is completed in a simple, yet elegant manner.
