「申ノ刻」は午後４時頃。揚帽子（あげぼうし）姿の大店（おおだな）の若い女房が、年増の女中を連れて歩く姿を描く。荷物を持つ女中がうつむき加減なのに対し、女房は白い両腕を出して、右手に扇子を持ち、左手を襟にあてている。顔の輪郭線を描かない冒険的描写がなされている。
