Portrait Traditionally Identified as Nawa Nagatoshi 伝名和長年像でんなわながとしぞう

Description

Horses are rarely depicted in portraits, making this fierce warhorse one of special significance to its rider. Though long identified as the military general Nawa Nagatoshi of the Nanbokuchō period (1333–1392), recent research suggests that the figure may instead represent Saitō Yoshiharu (1500–1572), a renowned equestrian.
