Heron, Rabbit, Plum Tree, and Bamboo 禽獣梅竹図きんじゅうばいちくず

Description

Depicted here are a rabbit, a heron, a plum tree and a bamboo tree. From the mid-1500s to the early 1600s, the artist Sōtatsu favored a technique that involved applying darker shades of ink on top of lighter shades, mixing the two on the work. Resultantly, his subjects are portrayed with a rich three-dimensionality, as seen in this work here.
