Description
The famous production center for <i>tenmoku</i>-style tea bowls, typified by the Jian kiln (in present-day Fujian Province) and the Jizhou kiln (in present-day Jiangxi Province), was located in southern China. However, some <i>tenmoku</i>-style tea bowls, including <i>tenmoku</i> tea bowl with oil spots (J., <i>yuteki tenmoku</i>), which is an Important Cultural Property and a treasure of Ryûkô-in Temple in Kyoto, are believed to have been produced by kilns in the northern part of China. This work is also made by a kiln in northern China.
