Description
The artificial island of Dejima in Nagasaki was originally inhabited by employees of the Dutch East India Company. After Japan signed trade agreements with other Western countries in 1858, merchants from various nations began settling on Dejima. This led to the construction of new Western-style houses and warehouses on the island.
