The Sanctuary, Temporary Hall, and Hall for the Imperial Palanquin at the Kyoto Imperial Palace 京都御所内侍所同仮殿御鳳輦部屋きょうとごしょないしどころどうかりでんごほうれんべや

Description

This temporary hall was built during a sanctuary renewal to house the mirror [Yata no Kagami], one of Japan’s Three Sacred Treasures. Legend says these regalia were gifted to the descendants of the sun goddess, Amaterasu Ōmikami. The peak in the background is said to be Mount Hiei, a sacred site deeply tied to the history of Japanese Buddhism.
