Description
Two ladies-in-waiting accompany several children as they pick lotus flowers. In Chinese, the word for lotus and successively are both pronounced the same way, so this kind of auspicious painting was used to pray for fertility and successive births. Set in summer, this work was likely a part of a larger set that depicted all four seasons.
