明治・大正期の講談人気に刺激され創刊されたが、終刊の詳細は不明。歴史小説などの掲載もあった。表紙・口絵・挿絵のほとんどを鰭崎英朋が務めている。大正後期になると神保朋世など、英朋門下の画家が挿絵を描いている。
