本資料を収める封筒には「自筆稿本 宝暦天明歌舞伎一覧」、表紙に「中村重助書 宝暦天明年間一覧」とある。「河竹」の朱印とともに河竹登志夫氏のものらしいペン書きで「題箋は何人か判明し兼ね」ること、「本文は全部黙阿弥の青年時代の筆写」であることが説明される。まだ本名の吉村芳三郎時代の黙阿弥が河原崎座の立作者・中村重助がまとめた宝暦・天明期の歌舞伎に関する一書を書写したものか。
