講談や落語の速記以外にも、エッセイなどを掲載。井川洗厓が表紙・口絵のほとんどを描いている。洗厓は『百千鳥』の挿絵を担当していた稲野年恒に大阪で絵を習った。また、少女雑誌にも絵を描いていた高畠華宵や鏑木清方の門人・伊東深水の作品も数点ずつ見られる。
