初の講談落語速記専門の雑誌。巻頭口絵はほぼなく、挿絵は主に月岡芳年や小林清親、渡辺省亭などの著名な画家が担当した。創刊時から人気を博し、毎号約1万5千部売り上げ、速記本の金字塔といわれる。
