親しい仲間内に配るための「摺物」として描かれた銅版画だったのかもしれません。地球儀やコンパス、書籍が雑然と置かれた机の向こうには、キャンバスに絵を描く画家と、銅版画用のプレス機で作業する職人が見えます。窓の外は明らかに西洋の風景なので、実際の江漢のアトリエとは思われませんが、自らの画家として、窮理学者としての活動を象徴するような図柄となっています。 【江戸の絵画】
