Description
長光は長船派の祖、光忠の子で、長船派二代を継ぎ、技量は父に迫るものがあるといわれる。この太刀は姿がよく、地、刃ともに優れた作行きである。とくに中ほどから上は大房丁字の乱れが華やかで、見事な刃文の中でも特に見どころとなっている。もと織田信長の佩刀であったが、本能寺の変の際に明智光秀が安土城より奪い、家老津田遠江守重久に渡り、のち前田利長、五代将軍綱吉へと移り、さらに、宝来六年（一七〇九）に六代将軍家宣より四代吉通が拝領した。
