Description
オランダ・アムステルダム製の屈折望遠鏡。「A van Emden Amsterdam」の銘が有る。当時のヨーロッパ製屈折望遠鏡には色消しレンズが用いられ、単玉の国産望遠鏡と比べると色収差による像のにじみが無く解像力にすぐれ、像も明るい。砲術訓練や長崎警備などに用いるために輸入されたものであろう。江戸時代後期、佐賀藩武雄領が行なった貿易港長崎でのさまざまな物品購入の記録である「長崎方控」天保10（1839）年の注文品に「ニウトンノ星目鏡」とある。
