Description
草創期の日本映画の題材には、日本橋や銀座のような名所や、芸妓の手踊り、歌舞伎などが好んで取り上げられたが、両国回向院の大相撲をカメラの前に再現した本作も大きな話題を呼んだ一本である。横綱の小錦八十吉、190㎝を越す巨体の大関・大砲万右衛門（おおづつまんえもん）をはじめ当代の人気力士たちの取り組みを見ることができる。「日本最初の撮影」「明治二十八年の両国大相撲」などのタイトルは後に加えられたもので、年代の記述に誤りが見られる。なお、しこ名に墨で斜線を引かれた方の力士が勝者である。
