Castle Pictorial Maps (Shiro-ezu)
A series of pictorial maps of castles and castle towns that the daimyo created and submitted on order of the Tokugawa Shogunate
Castle pictorial maps (shiro-ezu) show the layout of castle walls and the topography of the surrounding area. Pictorial maps of castle towns are often considered castle pictorial maps, as well. The most well-known collection of castle town maps is the Shoho shiro-ezu (Castle Pictorial Maps of the Shoho Era), which mapped the domains in 1644 on order of the Shogunate. In addition to military information, such as the buildings within castle walls, the heights of stone walls, the width of moats, and depth of the water, the Shoho shiro-ezu map such details as the castle towns and the position and shape of nearby mountains and rivers. The Shogunate ordered each domain to submit a pictorial map of the area, and the Shogunate stored these maps in its Momijiyama Bunko archives. Zoho Go-shojaku mokuroku (Enlarged Catalog of Shogunate Books), the library catalog of the Momijiyama Bunko compiled at the end of the Edo period, records 131 of these maps. Only 63 pictorial castle maps from the Momijiyama Bunko exist today. The others are said to have been taken when Edo Castle passed to the Meiji government after the Meiji Restoration. These 63 Shoho castle pictorial maps were designated Important Cultural Property in 1986 and are held in the National Archives of Japan.

国立国会図書館「日本古城絵図」（畿内・七道別）
「日本古城絵図」は、旧鳥羽藩主稲垣家旧蔵の城郭絵図集。全355面、同じ城の絵図が複数あるものもあり、城の数は220余。諸藩の兵学者たちが藩用の甲州流兵学研究の資料として、江戸詰の期間などを利用し、つてを頼って写し集めた城郭図集の一例。寛文から貞享、元禄ごろに多く行われた。編纂時期における当城と古城に分けられている例が多いが、本図集は両者が混淆し、城郭のみの図、城下町を含む図などが混在、一部、古戦場図も含む。形態は、半紙大から一辺2メートルをこえるものまで大小の一枚ものの集成である。縄張りの描法などに軍学者の視点がうかがえ、概して精度は高い。安土城など稀少図も含む。ここでは、国立国会図書館所蔵の城絵図を畿内および東海道・東山道・北陸道・山陽道・山陰道・西海道・南海道の七道に地域分けして紹介する。

国立公文書館「正保城絵図」（地方別）
正保城絵図は、正保元年(1644)に幕府が諸藩に命じて作成させた城下町の地図。城郭内の建造物、石垣の高さ、堀の幅や水深などの軍事情報などが精密に描かれているほか、城下の町割、山川の位置・形が詳細に掲載されている。各藩は幕府の命を受けてから数年で絵図を提出し、幕府はこれを早くから紅葉山文庫に収蔵した。幕末の同文庫の蔵書目録『増補御書籍目録』には131点の所蔵が記録されているが、現在、国立公文書館では63点の正保城絵図を所蔵しており、昭和61年（1986）に重要文化財に指定された。

広島県の広島市立図書館HPより。「諸国古城之図」は、旧広島藩主浅野家に伝えられた城絵図集で、東北から九州までの各地の古城を描いた177枚の絵図から成っている。
「岡山大学 池田家文庫 絵図公開データベースシステム」より。ここでは、正保国絵図とともに幕府に提出された城絵図について、高精細画像を使用して細部にわたって拡大して閲覧することができる。また、高精細画像一覧のうちから城絵図を選択すると、500件強の城絵図・城下絵図などが検索できる。
愛知県の西尾市岩瀬文庫が2007年11月から2008年1月にかけて開始した企画展のサイト。おもな展示資料の画像などが紹介されている。
長野県の飯田市美術博物館のHPより。飯田城の最古の絵図で、城下町まで描かれている。画像を拡大することで、細部まで見ることができる。
静岡県の浜松市立図書館が運営するサイト「浜松市文化遺産デジタルアーカイブ」より。複数の浜松城絵図と浜松城下絵図について、画像とともに解説がなされている。
「とよはしアーカイブ」（愛知県のおもに豊橋市図書館が所蔵する郷土資料および豊橋市美術博物館が所蔵する歴史・美術資料をデジタル化し、インターネット公開するデータベース）より。ここでは、図書館が所蔵している「三州吉田城図」と現在の地図との重ね合わせがしてあり、「三州吉田城図」の高精細画像も見ることができる。
山形県の米沢市上杉博物館が運営するシステム。明和6年（1769）の城下絵図のみの表示や、現在の地図と並べて表示するなどの閲覧方法がある。
長野県松本市の松本城管理事務所が運営する「国宝 松本城」公式ウェブサイトより。享保13年（1728）秋改の紙本着色の絵図などを閲覧することができる。
